I know “life changing” is a term that gets thrown around a lot these days but Fit Chicks has actually changed my life. When I started 3 years ago, I was almost 50 lbs heavier, had zero confidence or self esteem, and really did nothing to take care of myself. I hid behind every excuse there is; “I’m too busy,” “My schedule is too crazy,” “I’ve got work, kids’ activities, etc.,” “I just don’t have time,” “I don’t know how.”
In January 2016 I made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight and get healthy. I started by eating better and walking. The next month I signed up for TFC because I needed someone to show me how to workout and liked that it was women only. At my first class, I couldn’t do a single burpee, didn’t know how to do one push-up, what’s a “mountain climber”? Thankfully I had the best trainer at TFC that showed me how to modify and coached me on how to improve.
It was HARD and I was sore and tired and wanted to go back to the safety of my comfort zone so bad. But I kept going. I told myself, it’s ok to be a beginner and to be scared but you’re going to do it anyway. Then things started to change. I could do a burpee, and then I could do 2 burpees. I was the last person to finish a set but I actually finished it. I got stronger every week and that’s what motivated me to keep going, keep pushing, try one more rep, try to finish one second faster.
3 years later I’m a completely different person. I’m stronger physically but the mental changes have been unreal. If I can do 100 burpees at 5 am, I can dominate this meeting/presentation/difficult conversation at work. I can do hard things! I have new ways to describe myself that I have never said in my whole life before: I am competitive, I am determined, I am strong.
And a bonus, we have fun. These women are supportive, and funny, and we’re all in it together. ~Tracy H.
